I have a generic dual 12" sealed box in the back of my 87 Turbo. It takes it quite a bit of room and must be placed in the middle (otherwise the car begins to lean to the side the box is on). I have 2 JL W3 which require about 1.25ft^3 per one. That's a bit of room when you have two subs. I used to be able to fit almost as many golf bags as I'd like but now I am restricted to 3 or 4(without taking out the parcel shelf). I would recommend to go to a car audio shop and see how much they charge for a custom built box. The one in my town was around $100 for a sealed box and a little more for a ported box. That way they can a custom box that sets snug to the trunk walls. I would try to get one wide enough so it won't slide around and tall enough to hit the parcel shelf to try to limit the depth of it.
With the Orions HCCA, those subs are very very loud and require a very very very large box. I think they preferred to be ported so that adds more to the required space. The website http://www.orioncaraudio.com say that the 10" HCCA requires 1.4ft^3 total volume for one sub and a 12" long port. I believe that is a long port for a sub of its size. I like the HCCA's, I think they are good quality but have heard people say that they are no good for Sound Quality and are only good for SPL. You should go listen to those subs and other subs to really make up your mind. I personally like JL; I think they sound great in a sealed enclosure and great very loud, way to loud for any normal human being to listen to. The JL's sound deep and react well but not the best. Plus I got them for 1/2 off so that helped. I was also looking at HCCA's but the price of them turned me away, and the fact that they require immense about of power. Someone told me that they need around 1000-1500 watts a piece to get optimal performance, I don't know if that is true, the website says 600. And since I was going for a more SQ approach I thought another sub would be better. Now these are just my opinions, I suggest you go listen to them. Keep in mind that the subs will sound different in your car then at the store. The JL’s I bought didn’t get unbelievably loud at the store, but in our small hatchbacks, the subs get very loud.
Anyhow, just some food for thought
Ryan Floyd
