Going with q 4x6 & 4 inch driver would work but you might run into problems with ohm loads. These speakers are usually 4 ohms each which is where 99% of radio's run but aftermarket amps can run 2 ohm loads. When hooking up 2 4 ohm speakers, they will either be run in series or parallel where the amp will se 2 ohm or 8 ohms. If 8 ohms is what the amp sees, 1/2 the power will be produced (25x2@4ohms is now 12.5x2@8ohms) & running 2 ohms is the opposite, 25x2 is now 50x2. BUT you must be 100% sure your radio is capable of doing that or it will self destruct :o(
I wouldn't do the 6x9's is the back shelf due to them being so easily seen as well as if you decide to move the shelf out of the car, you must disconnect the speakers. Just get the 4x10 to 6x9 adapters & mount the speakers there. It will sound a LOT better then 4x6's + 4's.
