hmmm. could be the cam but it would shift all readings the same. i would triple check the cam alignment. marks need to be to top side of "V" . not perpindicular to head at TDC. if it was not burning oil i'd say it sounds like crap under the valves or a improper torque down. did you get the head pressure checked and/or milled? ???could also be pumped up lifters or "deflated" lifters???. try squirting oil into cyls and see if comp goes up. if you have an air compressor then buy a leak down gauge and check it that way. is it running yet?? if not it could be that lifters are not pumped up and you are effectively reducing the valve lift and duration. if all things check out then start it up. also make sure that the oilers are working right. it is critical to proper operation of valve train and failure will toast the cam and/or the head. with any luck the usual robustness of the system will hold it together until you smoke it out. start with oilers. put rags along the top of the exh manifold and crank it over to check.
