I had my gearstick out of my car and had a look at this problem, I might be wrong but underneath the gear stick where it does all its locating is made of plastic, on my car it looked like the ridge to stop you putting it in reverse without lifting up the stick had got damaged with time so there was very little for it to hit against and it just glides over. I think somebody else said you can alter the length of the stick at the bottom but not sure about this? Take a look if it is this, I thought maybe screwing in a piece of metal bent at 90 degrees but that might be a bit dodgy anybody else?
