Just fixed my shifter this weekend. these were the problems: would not go in 1st or 2nd, when they did 2nd was buried into my knee and the seat. reverse and 5th were way out there. when the car was in gear there was probably 1/2 to 3/4 of side play. fixes:$12.00 bearing & carrier (ball at end of shifter that fits into ahifter piviot) and scavanged a centering bushing from my 99 4 speed shifter (split plastic ring that fits over the incoming shifter rod and large rubber bushing that gets sandwiched between the metal housing and plastic bottom) the problems i was having made me think possible gear box problem, but NOW WHAT A JOY TO DIRVE. got parts from brewers saab in maugansville md. total fix took less than one VERY fruitful saturday afternoon. hope this helps.
