Help - new O2 sensor = very high idle....

Well, I hope I haven't created more problems by doing some routine maintenance. Today I thouroughly cleaned the throttle body, replaced my O2 sensor as well as cleaned out the AIC valve. I know for a fact that the old O2 sensor was around 8 years old so I thought it would be good to replace it. After the car was well warmed up, the idle was very high at around 1900-2000rpm. I thought with all this work the car would idle smoother. Before I did all of this the car was idling a bit high at around 1000-1100rpm. I tried to adjust the idle screw but it had no effect on the idle speed at all. I then unplugged the O2 sensor and the idle dropped right away to around 1500. If I have to adjust the idle mixture, is it something that I could do myself? I sure hope someone has some suggestions for me as I am starting to get frustrated. Otherwise, the car is well tuned with all vacuum lines recently replaced.
