Geez, on a rally car, the LAST thing you'd want is the large VDO oil temp sensor sticking down from underneath the oil pan!
Richard, I did a sort of similar thing as you're planning. I wanted to keep the stock oil pressure warning light sender yet add on a sender for my Autometer oil pressure gauge. So I had some hydraulic hose made up with a fitting that goes into the stock position, then ran that to a T-block, then had the two oil pressure senders stuck into the T.
I was advised to go this route by my mechanics, who had several T-blocks snap or crack. These Ts were plugged into the stock position. Sorry, to put things in perspective, this setup was on their 99T ice racer with a 16vT motor in it. The vibrations were too much and they broke the T and oil was all over the place. You'd think the same case with your rally car...
Also, do you want the oil temp gauge at a remote location? I'd think about drilling and tapping the tranny case at the oil pan part and plugging the oil temp sender there. That's where all the oil is, right? This is the setup on my 88 SPG street car.
If you want a picture of my T-block with the senders, let me know privately and I'll scan and email it to you. Oh, and it seems to me that the thread up there was NPT? Can't remember for sure, but I believe that's what I used on that hydraulic hose.
One final thought - if you go with my suggestion and use the remote T to mount the senders and the thread is actually metric, then all you'd need to do is find a metric fitting to put on the hydraulic hose. Un morceau gateau...
