Have done my 85 900 8V clutch a couple of times...
1. use electrical bare wire or wire cable as spacer....approx .1685" diameter...think it is #8 AWG if electrical...
2. flywheel does not come out...flywheel mounting bolts have thread seal to keep engine oil in engine...yes the bolt holes go thru all the way...
3. suggest using clutch petal to compress and insert spacer...then disconnect slave fluid line...its three mounting bolts and pressure plate mounting bolts. pressure plate MUST be held into compressed position with spacer....both the slave and pressure plate come out together toward mechanical fuel distributor (driver side).
4. You will need to compress the new plate...I have used the car jack under the car to compress new plate lying on cardboard (protect pressure surface) with the old throwout bearing in center of plate fingers...then insert spacer into new plate....install slave and new plate together (slave is moved further into the plates center because the fingers are compressed thus giving less installation thickness and more room to insert the slave/pressure plate "sandwich" back in.....
5. Would recommend changing the throwout bearing and the clutch shaft seal that you will see under the slave base mount....tough little metal cage/rubber seal to get out but it will be worn....
6. Purging the hydralyic line is sometimes tough....found connector on end of line into slave must be tight...sealing bleeder screw with teflon tape for bleed hose really helps....slave is VERY,VERY low liquid volume and it requires very little air to mess up the bleed job....
