oil pump o-ring leak

I have an '90 SPG and my mechanic says my oil pump o-ring leaks oil, it will cost $140 to fix, if main pulley is broken it will cost an additional $150. Does this sound about right? If so, is it something that can wait as I am low on funds right now? He said to watch the oil levels but in the 3 months since it was diagnosed the oil levels have not gone down at all.
Thanks in advance!
-Fred
