The things that I'll give our Accord over my SAAB are

Much quieter ride than the SAAB
SAAB seats give my wife bad backaches
4 doors
It's 8 years newer
In some situations, it can take corners a bit faster than my SPG

The SAAB, on the other hand has:

Speed
Solid body (closing the doors is like closing a bank vault)
Good, firm long-distance seats
Incredibly safe in accidents
Style
A lot of fun to drive
There are innumerable other things, but it's been a long day at the office and I can't think right now.

A lot of the money that gets spent on SAAB maintenance is spent because the cars are OLD. They last a long time, but you have to treat them right. The things I have replaced on my '89 Turbo (other than tune-up and oil change) have been because the car is 11-1/2 years old and has over 100k miles on it. My parts cost has been around $400 for the year-and-a-half I've owned it. Other than a few things, classic 900s are amazingly easy to work on, and most parts are affordable. If you count installing a rebuilt transmission or having your timing chain break and toast the engine, over the course of 5 years, you could concievably spend an average of $100 a month if you do your own work.

Hondas have their strengths and SAABs have their strengths. It all depends on what your criteria are. Whatever you get, take care of it and enjoy it.
