in short, ditch it and pick up a nice 1985 900T for $1000 and call it a day. as a fellow homebuyer/kid haver/9-3 & 900T owner, sounds like you aren't going to get your $3800 back. if it were me, i'd find an older model... it doesn't have to be a 1985 900 :) i sold my last 900T (1986) for $800 and it was in great shape and i'm sure it's running like a champ (sold it on the Saabnet Classifieds!). i sold it because i found a 1987 900T w/ 94,000 miles on it (a dream boat!). in reality, to me it's my beater, but to the naked eye, it's a dreamy black 900T.... the deals are out there. as a matter of fact, i'll be selling it for $1000 come spring! and you know what? i'll find another one (hopefully a 90 or newer) 900T for cheap.
it pays to be very familiar with the 900's. if you're experienced and you know what you are looking for when purchasing a used 900T, you're always going to make out on the deal...
good luck to you! hope you find your dream house!!
