Right - keeping it closer to the factory look. It is an esthetic thing, so it's a personal judgment call. Some guys have talked about doing the headliner in black. Too cavelike for my taste. The grey headliner in my (late) '88 SPG gives the interior sort of an "overcast" appearance as compared to the factory cream headliner in my '89.
The fellow who did the headliner matched the grey to the old headliner. It matched because one of the previous owners smoked. (Cough, cough) I pulled some of the original headliner pieces on the back, not replaced when I had the headliner redone, and they were cream-colored where they were protected from cigarette smoke.
If I had known then what I know now, I'd have gotten the cream color like I'm going to use to replace the headliner in my '89.
The side panels on the SPGs are a sun-faded medium grey.
