Rust and paint dilemma - opinions requested (long)

My mechanically sound '89 900T w/ 103K has some mild rust issues. Overall, the paint is in decent condition except for some pitting on the side of the hood, and some minor chips. However, the right front wheel well has a streak of rust that has broken through the paint. In addition, the hatchback has some rust bubbles near the emblems. The car is white, which helps to emphasize the rust.
Do I splurge for a full repaint, presumably $3 to $5K, or just worry about fixing the rust issue and getting a close match on those areas? I've heard that once Saabs rust, it's a lost cause. If so, the rust repair might even be wasted money. I plan on keeping this car until 200K+ which could take 5 years or so. If I do a repaint, I'll keep it even longer.
I would appreciate any advice from others who've had their cars repainted or rust repaired.
Thanks in advance.
Tim
