Boy does this sound familiar - my 1987 T900S conv does the same thing - many posts on this BB dealing with it. I'm going to install a Sears Diehard Security battery so I will still be able to start the car. Check the Townsend site for some ideas.
A note about connecting the multi-meter in series, pull the negative cable off the battery, connect one test lead to the battery's negative post, the other lead to the now disconnected cable end - NOW THE MAGIC - with the auto-dimming light you have to touch the cable (with test lead attached) to the battery post until the light goes out, then do your fuse pulling, etc. Another thing, if you leave your key in the ignition while the car is parked that WILL drain the battery (I know this thanks to a hint in the Bentley manual!). If you totally and completely solve your problem please post the solution, I think there are a number of us out here looking for the answer! Have frustrating fun!
