Hi, Bogey.
Well, I really wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't proven it to myself, but the end result of doing a bunch of SPG9 upgrades to my Swedish Beastie ('87 900T) last summer/fall was an =improvement= in my gas mileage! I was averaging around 27-28 mpg in mixed highway/suburban driving for many, many years. Then I went to balanced/matched oversized injectors, the RRFPR, Stage 2 APC, the SPG9 AID, and a couple other bits and goodies, and to my surprise, I'm now averaging 29 mpg, with better than 30 mpg on longer highway trips. The Beastie never did that before, even when it was new, and I keep scrupulous records (fuel and maintenance logs).
This really was a total (albeit pleasant!) surprise to me, and I think the big contributors to this improvement are the timing changes allowed by the AID and the better fuel control given by the RRFPR. I would have thought that larger injectors would mean increased fuel consumption, but the car isn't running any richer at cruise -- it just runs BETTER. :> And now, should I ask for it, I can sustain high redzone boost for really incredible thrust (for which there's an appropriate fuel usage penalty!) I can't get the dopey grin off my face, though. Those mods ROCK!
I figured it out, too... the return on investment I get from that extra 1 or 2 mpg, based on premium gas costing around $1.70/gallon, means that I'll recoup the cost of my SPG9 mods in only about 11 years. Great deal, huh? :D
