Insurance companies will often lowball you on write off value. So show the evidence of the Blue Book - make sure the mileage adjustment is clearly shown (cars with 200+k miles get low value from insurance adjuster as my son has just found) So do a value at 150k and at 265k to see the difference due to miles. Provide receipts for all major repairs and all add-ons that are not factory options when first sold. You should get extra for these or be entitled to remove them. Then, are you convinced the car is a write off or can it be repaired at reasonable cost (not the insurance company's estimate)? In which case, take the write off and buy back the "wreck" for $100 - that's what happened in my son's case (the damage is largely cosmetic so the car is back running fine for $400). Don't let the insurance adjuster beat you down - they get incentives to settle for low write off values but they are also under pressure to settle promptly so push back in the negotiation.
