Bad Mileage Posted by Dana [Email] (#2822) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dana) on Fri, 2 Mar 2001 17:29:01 In Reply to: Air Flow Sensor, Vladimir, Thu, 1 Mar 2001 21:07:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Your system is the mechanical CIS (continuous injection system). The AMM or air mass meter was a later electronic flow measurement. As stated by others bad mileage can be caused by a number of factors. These should be explored as outlined...but if these are not out of line....then also for your system you want to look at:
1. leaky mechanical fuel injectors (leak test)
2. leaky cold start injector
3. the pulse ratio of the modulating valve during warmup and warm idle.
4. the warmup regulator control pressure during warmup and warm idle.
If the above items are not familar...you may want to visit http://members.aol.com/darenius/85SAAB/85SAAB.html. This is my 85 900 non-turbo website with the CIS system. Most of the components will look familar to you... This may help familarize you with the devices and terms, etc. But there are a couple of systems which control the amount of mixture enrichment on this mechanical system. And because these mechanical devices can wear with age...they can get out of the normal control range and must be readjusted to compensate for the mechanical wear. You could not have picked a better subject to try to understand....but it is envolved and is not a single screw adjustment...
