it works great! I live in Charlotte, which gets pretty darn hot in the summers.
You will need the 134A conversion kit; got mine at Walmart for about $35 but had to buy some additional oil as I recall. Autozone had the new filter/dryer for about $40 (same brand as OE). On my car the primary hose set which attaches to the compressor was leaking massively around the swivel connections (internal O rings), so I purchased a replacement set, which I understand are available from many sources. It is recommended to replace all Orings at all connections; the local dealer supplied me all these ( I think $29 total ). Yes you must get all old oil out of the system which is a bit trickey. I purchased the conversion flush from Autozone , which you must pour into both hoses & let it soak up the old oil, then blown out with compressed air. The expansion valve in the evaporator is very restrictive & you must flush the lines from both directions away from this point as it will not let much of anything thru.
Pour new oil into each component in quantities as described by Bentley manual & also in the conversion kit instructions.
Your will also need a vacuum pump to evac. the system and also a set of R134A gages to make sure you don't overcharge the system.
As far as comments re. R12 being colder, I believe what I have read in the temperature/pressure charts for both R12 and R134A pretty much debunk this belieft for me. My car gets plenty cold inside, even in sultry Charlotte summers.
Good Luck,
DET
