Replace heater valve. It completes the cooling loop in the eng, and may be restricted, as well as leaking. May want to have the heater core cleaned/rodded at a shop too.
Gage rising on hiway could just be sticky t-stat (even new). Could be related to air entry ay heater valve. Could be false read .... clean all connetions to gage and sensor with elect tuner clean/lube (radio shack)
