1. Power window switch - driver's side works in reverse of passenger side (press up to get window down). And the 'one-touch down' feature does not work on this window. An alarm system was recently installed and I believe they installed lock actuators in the doors. Might someone have reversed wires on the window control in the door, or is it more likely that the wiring at the switch is backwards?
>chances are the po put the wrong switch in. I've got the wrong switch in my passenger slot (dealer says it's the right one but go figure) and I was just too lazy to go back and get the right one. It'll die in a few years and I'll get the right one in.
2. Power antenna - won't retract fully. Is this user serviceable or is a replacement more likely? What's the best way to access the antenna unit?
>Common problem...I assume it will go out all the way? Just clean it with some WD40 and a rag...lubricate it with any engine oil or 3-in-one. If it still fails to fully retract, straighten it out (may have a bend in it) and if it breaks, replace the mast. $10-20 and you'll have to remove the mast assembly from inside the rear fender and get the broken piece out. Reassemble the mast to the car and insert the new mast and let the motor suck it in.
3. Radio/equalizer/CD - This is all original Saab/Clarion equipment. The CD does not eject and the whole system often toggles off/on. Holding the eject button down keeps it all running. Otherwise, it sometimes works, but sometimes is blinky. Get it repaired, or replaced? Any recommendations for replacements?
>>>I would replace the head unit and equalizer with a modern system, although your car is new enough that you may choose to ship the components back to Clarion NJ for repair/overhaul. It costs about $125-150 per unit through your dealer (they'll box it up and send it back, takes longer, 4-6 weeks) although you may be able to ship both head unit and equalizer/amp at the same time (I should have, ended up doing the equalizer amp a couple months later), make sure you ship the cable from the wiring harness too because the cable/connector may be part of the problem. You'll have to go back behind the DIN boxes to get the cable from the main wiring harness to the equalizer/amp. BTW, before you go through all this, make sure you have a good connection from the head unit to the DIN box.
4. Rear speakers - not working at all. The manual talks about a rear speaker amp with fuses that is not user-serviceable. Where is it and why can't I replace the fuse myself?
>>Dunno where this amp is, but it might have minifuses stuck in it like the old equalizer/amp in the center console.
5. Backup light - only stays on if I hold the stick in reverse. I assume I can adjust this. Is the switch under the car, or in the console?
>>Switch is in the console. Pop the black cover off and you can see it. Put the stick in neutral and center the switch (loosen two machine screws) at the index mark(s). Backup light should only activate in reverse, BTW. But you shouldn't have to 'hold' the stick in reverse, it should stay in reverse w/o your hand on the stick. If it pops out of reverse, you have other problems ranging from improper shifter adjustment/worn shifter bits to a trans shifter fork problem.
6. Headlight wipers - not working, one is loose and seems disconnected from the motor. Any troubleshooting tips?
>>So tighten up the loose one to the shaft.
7. Front air dam - loose with one section missing. How many 93's have their original dams in place anyway? Should I just pull off the lower section entirely or get a replacement? Good sources?
>>Most have the oem dash in place if the nut behind the wheel stayed off of curbs and parking concrete dividers. Get a replacement, dealer source only. sobstory or andrews in Princeton MN might be a good source.
8. Dashboard cover - the dash is perfect, I'd like to keep it that way. What's a good source for covers?
>>IMHO covers may aggravate the problem if they contribute to heat buildup although they will certainly shield it from UV. You can also shield it from UV by using a windshield cardboard shield whenever the car is parked outside during the day.
9. Trailer hitch - yes, I know this sounds goofy, but I've got a bike rack that mounts on a trailer ball. I prefer this to a roof rack. Anyone ever have a tow kit installed? It doesn't have to be heavy-duty.
>available from your dealer. Used to be about $110 but probably around $250 now. Called a receiver hitch. Mounting the bike rack on a ball implies it is supported on the paint on the rear hatch...not too good for paint. There are bike racks that are entirely supported by the receiver hitch and don't touch the car. Your choice.
10. Car cover - again, who's a good source for this stuff?
As far as I'm concerned there's only one car cover for outside (any soft cotton is ok for garage dust cover, outside is different) and it's the latest Evolution fabric, I think they're up to IV or V by now. Try Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories, used to cost about $125 and my old EvoIII is still in good shape.
