actually, 5 1/4's are what the local shop suggested me to use due to the lack of room. Since I already purchased the 6.5's, my decision was final & they made them fit :o)
My 6.5's face the middle of the car with the tweeters aimed at the center of the car. With 5 1/4's, everything could be aimed towards the center which will give better imaging :o)
Sub wise, I had a 6.5 speaker under each front seat in a small box playing 120hz & below & the sound was awesome. IT wasn't a SPL monster but was very clean & sounded a lot better then the POS Rockfor Fosgate Audiophile sub I had in the car. I removed the 12's because I needed the hatch for a trip to florida & was pissed when the $200 6.5's sounded better then a $600 pair of 12's :o)
1 of the many reasons I don't like Rockford stuff even though I sold Rockford for 3 + years :o)
Instead of 6.5's, you can also mount 1 or 2 8's or a single 10 in the spare tire compartment. It's hidden & takes up zero useable room :o)
