Need advice on antennae mast replacement

So I broke down and bought a $37 replacement mast from the dealer. (Who wants to be a millionaire? Just own a SAAB parts counter!) Anyway, I follow the Bentley instructions, get the motor and mast out of the car and deal with the stuck sleeve issue I read about on the board. (For the record, if the sleeve does not pull out, run a 3/8ths drill down the empty mast at slow speed on a cordless drill, it snags the sleeve and twists it out, saving a lot of grief. Gently clamp the aluminum mast in the curved interior edge of a Black and Decker workmate and drill.)
My problem is that when I was putting the new mast back in, I touched the leads to the battery as per Bentley to start the feed of the plastic gearstrip back into the motor. The strip didn't catch, but the motor apparantly ran a full cycle and now seems to behave as if the mast is already down. Any attempt to use the motor pulls the gearstrip in a bit, and then it reverses and spits it out. Basically I seem to have it out of phase. How do I get around this? there does not seem to be a way to manually crank the motor as in the sunroof motor setup.
I now have the mast mounted in the fender and fully extended so I can use the radio tonight (and keep the rain out); I plan to check the board tomorrow for the typically great responses so I can get this done without another trip to the dealer.
By the way, the dealer had these really cool ceramic coffee mugs, matte grey with a black SAAB logo on both sides, very understated and cool. But $13.50 each. Anyway to get them somewhere else for less?
Thanks in advance!
