catalytic converter problems?

Ok. I've put a few posts on this BB and have had great results. Now a situation has me perplexed. I've changed spark plugs, searched out vacuum leaks, cleaned the throttle body and aic, adjusted the throttle screw, used electrical parts cleaner on the amm (with good results) and I still have inconsistent idle (this I can live with, it is between 800-1400). HOWEVER, I'm now getting a situation where upon accelerating from a stop, the accelerator is pressed down with almost NO response. It takes sometimes 3-5 seconds for the engine to spring to life. Also, I feel a hesitation on acceleration when in motion, again pressing down on the accelerator and there is a delay before the engine reacts. I have had a previous car that had a catalytic converter problem, but it just stopped running. This car continues to start and run and get me to work, but I'm worried that trouble lies ahead. Any suggestions?
