Got a chance to dump the old gear oil Sat. This was the first time since the auto - 5sp conversion 45K miles ago (previous owner's dime). Was running Redline MTL since rebuilt tranny installed.

I was kinda suprised by the metallic, almost irradescent glint to the old oil. Like a fine graphite mixture. Happy to not find any chips or big shavings though - just a small cone of tiny shavings on the drain plug magnet.

Since getting the car (w/ 5K on tranny) 1st has always been a bit of a hunt to find and needs to be squeezed in, second can be crunchy until warm and 5th is a bit resistant, but squeezes in with light pressure - all when cold. Warm is pretty smooth with the exception of 5th (same). I wanted to summarize because I'm sure everyone's situation is different.

Got hit with a cold spell this weekend (daytime high 15 deg. F) so I had a first hand look at the cold shifting. Veeeery similar to redline. Really, not much difference, but first and second did seem to engage without as much resistance. When the car is at op temp the shifting seemed much smoother and more precise than before.

Who knows if any improvement is the result of the Honda MTF or if similar findings would have been from just fresh redline. I kind of think any new gear oil is better than old...and since this was my first change i have nothing to compare to. blah blah blah.

Anyways, thought you might be interested. By the way, no leaks with the new stuff.
