Unfortunately, it's a common thing anywhere that the snow flies.
Prevention: clean out the drain slots on the bottom of the door. They're pressed into the door right under the flat, rubber strip. You'll know them when you see them. I use a piece of nylon cable tie to keep them open. It's flexible enough to do the job without scratching the coatings. You can slow down the rust that's working in the door with something like POR-15. See http://www.por15.com for more details.
The way to get the get the rubber strips off is to drill out the pop rivets. They're 3/16" rivets with large heads. You can get them through the dealer ($$$) or, if you're lucky, you can find them at a good Ace H'ware or similar place.
Good luck.
