The only special tool you will need is a ball joint fork (A.K.A. pickle fork).
There are two types, the hand held hit it with a hammer type, and the pnuematic type (insert into air hammer.
Both work well, but the air power is much faster.Luckily I have both.
I have replaced many a SAAB ball joint and have found there to negligible difference in alignment of the front end.
However, I highly reccomend getting an alignment after changing the steering rack. Even if you carefully count the number of tie rod threads on your current one, and make the new one match, there are too many tolerances stacking up against you.
Alignments are cheap. Tires, and ill handling are expensive.
