For a couple years I had run a triple set of Rockford Fosgate 10" Punch subs (I have a 91 S10 ext cab, and wanted to fill as much of the rear space as possible, so it wouldn't stick out as a speaker box), fed enough power, about 600 watts, I could wake the dead with them. Not quite as low as I liked, but very loud. I have since switched to a single 12" RF XLC after getting the Saab (and maturing some). The triple box was too wide to slide up against the rear seat, and leaving it at the back would have effectively killed any amount of room I have back there. I must say I am impressed still with the sound. It gets a good deal lower, but not nearly as loud, altho part of that is my amp-Orion Cobalt, 150X1. The sub is rated 200RMS, but I know I could feed it at least 300 without problem. The biggest factor in what you need in a sub is the type of music that you listen to, and next is space you have to work with. My problem is that I listen to lots of different types of music-mainly Electronica/Techno, but there is also country, classic rock, metal/industrial, jazz, oldies, easy listening, and alternative. Many times I find that the 12 goes too low for music like country. But its not quite enough for a lot of the electronica. I feel like I am always fiddling with the level control (thank god my Pioneer has built in level control on the head unit) I am seriously thinking about a dual setup with a single Infinity 8 and a single Vega 12, and switch off depending on the music.
