My Saab is gushing oil! New Engine or Junk?

My 1987 Saab 900 Turbo is leaking oil out of every gasket that is supposed to retain it. It will literally go through 8 quarts a day if I still drove it. I took it to my local Saab garage (no dealers in the area) and they all refuse to fix it. It has 290,000 miles on it and the turbo is out, and if I do drive it, it will overheat within minutes. My question is, has anyone reading this did an engine swap on one of these? Is it worth doing it? Is it a real pain in the a##? Or should I junk it? I really don't want to, the body is in excellent shape, it looks great, and I really do love this car! Thanks for any opinions, good or bad.
