air box upgrade I'm about to try

This is something I've been thinking about to get more air into the stock air box without cutting up the car body. For starters, the open air K&N gets rid of the stock air box and it's restriction but sucks in hot air from engine bay. I use a factory size K&N in the factory airbox but I realize the airbox is still a big restriction. What I'm thinking about is forming a rectangular sheetmetal duct to run from the front of the airbox to the small space on the right side of the intercooler. IT looks like there is about 1/2 inch space between the intercooler and the body. IT doesn't sound like much but if you consider total area of a tall duct it would add up. I'll cut a hole in the front of the airbox where I'll rivet and/or rtv the duct to it. Oh, I'll keep the stock snorkle too. The only drawback I see is the duct blocking airflow from the intercooler. But at speed the air should go over the airbox anyway.
sound reasonable?
