I think this is worth a try. I'm just busy making my own 'attempt' at the cold air open-filter set-up.

Take the factory box. Cut a 3" hole in it. Get a 3" start collar from HomeDepot. Or get a 3" pipe T and cut out the lower part of the T. That part will attach to the factory box as the flange. I can imagine alot of trimming and lots of alum duct tape. Now while at HomeDepot see if they carry any rect. ducting. I think it would be used for a fume/vent hood. More rectangular than normal. Take the intercooler side skirt out and fit the duct from there to the start collar on the factory air box. The air box end is going to need some shaping to get it 3" round. Wear gloves.

Or find a hungry sheet metal guy who has a good sense of humor. It may help if he likes beer.

Let me know if you can think of an objective way to test that these 'new' set ups are actually better.
