If they are both 16vs, yep, you've got the exact same ignition. It's interchangeable. I'm not readily aware of a test procedure on the knock sensor, but you can try removing the knock sensor from the engine, wrapping it in rags (don't disconnect it) and see if the problem persists. If it does, you might look elsewhere. On non-turbo cars before '88, the CE light is quite dumb - it's not terribly good at diagnosing faults, and there isn't a real way to understand what it's trying to tell you. *Usually*, CE faults are mixture related - a bad O2 sensor or AMM will cause them. I'm not readily aware of a fault for that early of a car that means a bad knock sensor, but non-turbos are not my forte... :)
