Installing Amp in 92 Convert - Thoughts?

As the temp creeps up I'm am going to be installing a new amp in my 92 convertible to power the second voice coil in my rear speakers (don't ask). It is a sony 2x50w (xm-552hx). Any thoughts on where to put it? I was thinking giving the tight trunk space (this is my only ride) that I may mount it on a piece of appropriate size nice looking wood and then either have velcro on the bottom to keep it from sliding with some wiggle room if I have that 'one' thing that will not fit or hang it on the spare mounted verticaly some how with an extra foot or so of cable if they are long enough (17ft). Is a permanent mount better? Thoughts and input (from the convertible crowd especially) who have done this would be great
And secondly, about those cables. Which side to run power and which to run sound given the battery placement? I'm assuming the wimpy looking existing stock amp under the back seat is too small to take power from. How do I get the power through the firewall? Where are the existing holes versus ones which (shudder) I may have to make. Anything to watch out for?
Thanks,
Carter
