Convertible top acting up.

I have an 89 900T convert. and the top is reponding funny when the switch is pressed.
The top appears that it is not getting enough pressure to raise or lower itself. Is there anything in particular that I can check for that is common with these models. For a while now the topw would go down fairly easy, with some hesitation about half way through the cycle. Putting the top up was even worse. I could hear the motor running but the top would only move a little then stop...a little then stop...
Does the hydraulic system ever need bleeding or need additional fluid?
Also, I appear to be getting leakage into the trunk when it rains. Any common spots where this occurs or something I can do to stop this from happening?
Any assistance on this would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.
