Remove the center console first by prying the accordian-like filler section out and undoing the two screws revealed underneath. Pull out the ashtray and remove the bolt behind it. Then remove the screws on the sides of the console. Unplug stereo components and undo the ashtray light as needed and remove the console.
Remove the trim piece under the steering column.
The knee bolster is held on by three bolts. One in the center behind where the ashtray goes, two on the ends, accessed from the engine compartment. The two end bolts use a 10mm socket and are hidden behind wires. One is just aft of the fuse/relay box on the firewall. Push the wires out of the way to find it. The other is aft of the PS reservoir, also hidden behind some wires. After the bolts are undone, the bolster will slide out.
Finally, spring the $45 or so for a Bentley manual. It's much better than the Haynes manual.
