The shifter popping out of reverse is a common test for the transmission. I have always thought it meant the transmission was going to need work soon - as in rebuild, as in expensive (about 2000-3000). Usually it is the pinion bearing that fails, and it whines under load in 5th gear. Reverse popping out is another type of problem.
Low clutch pedal might be worn hole in the clutch pedal itself (very simple to fix), slave cylinder failed (about $300 to fix) or just low brake fluid (hardly ever the case - yes it gets low, but there is another problem causing it - a leak somewhere in the system).
I would advise not buying the car without a solid diagnosis on the transmission, and adjusting the price accordingly.
