DET:
Yes, these motors are good for many miles but there's a limit. My friend's '91 Volvo Turbo wagon has 300,000 miles on it and runs fantastic but compression is like 135-145lbs per cylinder, which is a little worn. This wear manifests itself as slightly baggy acceleration compared to new.
Higher mechanical compression pressure off boost generates more low-end torque. With worn rings and blow-by, your car doesn't pull as hard off boost. You can sometimes "crutch" the motor by advancing the timing 2-3 degrees which will build up more cylinder pressure at low revs. Don't go crazy with the advance, because it has diminishing returns and exacerbates the blow-by problem.
Even with worn rings, oil consumption may be low because the oil ring may not be as worn as the top two compression rings, which see most of the heat and pressure.
At this stage of the motor's life, one must balance the lower output with the fact that it still runs fine.
Regarding the cooling system, check all the docs at http:///http://www.townsendimports.com.
Regarding the gear oil: This topic has been discussed to death so pulling a search for related topics will yield literally 1,000 posts. Kevin K, SAABMASTER (Townsend), GregD, and Dick In Falls Church among others can help you there. Read their posts.
Regarding the price: "He just wants this thing gone" is the operative phrase here. A price of 400 dollars or lower will guarantee its "gone-ness". Once again, this car should be bought for as close to "I'll take it off your hands for free" as possible.
Judicious waffling is the prerogative of the wise buyer.
Good luck.
