It's a long story but, my windshield was cracked by my mechanic. I told him it's his responsibility to replace it. He replaced it with a used windshield and told me it was used after the fact, over the phone (I told him I don't care whether it's new or used, as long as it isn't cracked...).

When I went to pick up my car it seemed as if this new windshield was really dirty. I drove off and tried to wash the window. Turns out that it wasn't dirty, it was scratched and pitted badly. The date on the windshield is '83 (my car is an '85). So they put a pitted, scratched eighteen year old windshield on my car. I'm suspecting that it was lying face-down in a dirt salvage yard for quite a while and that's why it's pitted with what looks like dirt. I could hardly even see through it when driving toward the sun at sunset!

I called back and told them (on their answering machine after-hours) that they'll have to replace it again with another (decent) windshield. I'm thinking about having the windshield replaced myself and suing my mechanic in small claims court for the charges if they give me any problems.

My question after all this is: how much is a new OG900 windshield (Bronze - Saab P/N 92 80 439)? I understand that this particular windshield was first used in the '83 model year until that body style ceased production in '93. Prior to '83, they used a different windshield (Green). Has anyone ever used a used windshield? If so, how much did you get it for? I have the feeling this mechanic cheaped-out and cut a deal with a local salvage yard for a windshield which had been lying around.

Also, I had a strip of tint at the top which was butt-ugly but I really liked it because it cut down on glare. The new (used replacement) windshield didn't have this strip. Was this an option on Saabs, or did someone probably put that on aftermarket???

TIA.
