I know that is has been done before (welding in place), the problem is finding someone who has done it before and will do a good job. The pan is the transmission case. it would entail a reconstruction of the transmission to get it right. That is why Saab changed the size of the hex to 13mm to discourage overzealous changers. I think a 10mm hex would have been a better idea...
