....and it's a coolant leak.. from the elbow bypass hose. Apparently came on rather suddenly on my drive home today...noticed the gage up around 60% on freeway...usually 50 or below.... steadily increased when I got to the city, and as it rose, the fans didn't come on. IT was getting close to hot, but not quite there, when I parked it, opened the hood, and was greeted by steam and hissing sounds.... saw that the reservoir was void of coolant, and saw a big puddle underneath my car. Managed to add fluid and nurse her back home.... where I observed lots of fluid dripping from the elbow bypass hose....

Does this make sense? To me it seems to.... coolant gets low, therefore doesn't circulate properly.... engine gets hot, but fans don't come on because coolant not circulating past the fan switch... Only question is why did the leak suddenly appear a couple weeks ago, disappear, then reappear again so suddenly today. I haven't noticed coolant level decreasing during the past couple weeks....maybe the loss of coolant accelerates when engine gets hot... an evil process that feeds itself..

Went to AutoZone and tried like hell to get on the replacement part they gave me... it was too small, and even with CONSIDERABLE effort, it wouldn't go on there...patched back up with the old one. Tomorrow I guess I'll have no choice but to go to dealer and shell out whatever they want for the part... the leak seems to be consistent now..don't think it will go away for another couple weeks...and it's plenty hot here in Houston. I was worried I did damage today (how would I know if I did).... guess I'll be calling in sick in the morning.

Thanks, and please let me know if any of you have thoughts/advice on the subject.

'Roo
