Replaced the bypass hose today, seems to have improved matters with the coolant leak, but I guess time will tell.
While doing my post repair idle, I examined the operation of the drive belts that have been causing some concern lately. As I've mentioned, the outside alternator belt is quite loose...flaps around pretty good and makes some noise, although it seems to be staying on its pulleys. The alternator is shaking around a bit, and turned a bit counterclockwise. Several here have said I should replace alt. bushings, which I'm planning to do.
However, today I noticed that the harmonic balancer, as well as the P/S pulley, are shaking around a bit as well! I hadn't noticed this before, so it's possible the condition is worstening. Could it just be the loose belt causing all the shaking around, or should I suspect bigger HB problems? If I'm gonna open up for surgery, might as well deal with it in one shot.
Anything I can or should do in the meantime before I can get to the repair? Would tightening the alt belts make things better or worse?
Thanks,
'Roo
