head gasket - bad experience

Well, my saga continues. 1988 8 Valve - was burning much oil and suggestion was bad valves. Had head examined and now need my head examined. Machine shop said valves were fine but head slightly warped - planed it and I put it back on. Car would not start - sounded badly out of time. Compression test was 85, 95, 0 and 100. Returned head to machine shop who said that I had a bend exhaust valve on #3 which he said was caused when I replaced head but timing chain must have moved. I had wired chain to sprocket and was quite careful -and everything lined up - not sure how this could be but car definitely sounded out of time - not even any firing at all. Any suggestions - how can I definitely confirm timing is correct.
Thanks
John
