I have an '89 900 that I aquired a few months ago. The brakes have been rubbing and squealing (not severely) at, I think, all the wheels. This week that noise was replaced by a nice grinding sound as my pad retainer ground into my rotor. I pulled the wheel and found a frozen caliper.
I'm going to replace that caliper and rotor, but the problem I have is that while the other wheels are ok, it seems like none of the calipers really retract on there own. They are not stuck in any way, it's just that they extent when I apply brake pressure but then stay against the rotor unless I push them back in. They stay out enough to cause friction and sound.
So my question is, are all these calipers independently in need of a rebuild or is there a problem with my master cylinder or perhaps my brake lines?
