motivation: passenger window slow and console totally full of crap
solution: take switch assembly out, clean like hell
Got the switch assembly out easy. Got the wiring harness off ok.
Took a while to figure out how the switched lock into the housing.
They kinda rotate out.
Tried cleaning the switches from the top only.....
Remove the decor rocker thingy, nothing to really clean
Realized switches must totally come apart, and they do.
With many micro flat blade screwdrivers and razor blades the
switches come apart. Three pieces. The rocker/decor, outer housing,
and the guts(bottom).
The guts are what need cleaning. I should add at this point that it looked
like the PO had spilled a soda-a-day down there. The top half was full
of dried soda and dust. Almost a good design...
I used a nail file and eraser to clean any and all contacts. With liberal
use of CRC contact cleaner. The slow window was very pitted and showed
a bad arc burn on the contacts. I was losing current?!
Reassembly is easy, it all just snaps together....yea right. Big thing is to keep the rocker contacts to stay seated while the snapping occurs.
Much patience.
The main caveat here. I must have bent one of the rocker pivots down.
Allowing the rocker to contact with both sides at the same time. This is
what caused my window fuse to blow. CAUTION! I went through 6 25amp fuses
trying to isolate my window fuse issue.
switches look good and have really good action.
I should also add that I spent the extra 20 minutes per door to remove the
skin and spray lithium grease on any and all moving parts.
Windows almost go up as fast as they go down.
Total time spent ~ 3 hours
