The 400 block has siamesed cylinder bores and the four-bolt main blocks are hard to come by unless you find a truck block.
The 350 block has water passages all around the cylinder for less thermal distortion in the bores. Plus, four-bolt blocks are much easier to find.
To make the 400 crank work in a 350, you have to cut reliefs in the oil pan rails for the rods to swing by.
I'm sure you know the flywheel and harmonic balancer from a 400 motor have to be used as well because the engine is externally balanced.
