If you just open up the bleed nipple at a brake caliper, nothing will come out. You need to apply pressure, which is the same process as bleeding the system. Fluid just doesn't flow straight from the brake fluid reservoir to the caliper - there is a master cylinder in the way.
Since your car is non-ABS, it's pretty straightforward. First remove all the brake fluid you can from the reservoir with a turkey baster. Be careful not to get any on the paint or it'll destroy it. Also, throw away the baster when done- you don't want Castrol DOT4 on your Thanksgiving bird.
A buddy of mine has a great brake bleeder. He got a replacement cap for the brake fluid resevoir. He cut a hole in it and glued in a rubber hose that he runs to a cheapo garden sprayer. His is fancy - there's a pressure gauge on it. You fill the reservoir with fresh fluid, pressurize the system (just a little) crack the bleeder, and press the brake to let the fluid flow out. Just make sure you don't let the reservoir run dry.
Alternatively, bring it to a shop. I had a Saab certified shop flush the fluid in my 9000 for about $50. fluid included. Not a bad deal.
