1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I've been meaning to ask this for a while but keep forgetting: what is the difference year to year between Saabs? Is there a list somewhere? I know SOME of the differences in exterior. Unfortunately my knowledge is limited only to 85- (16 valves).
85 didn't have the side markers (blinkers) on the front fenders and had the "old style" sealed headlamps. Also 85 through 87 have the terrible wiring harness deterioration problem (experienced that first-hand). These also had the solid (non-vented) front brake rotors.
86 got the vented front brake rotors and was the first year of the side markers. Also was the first year for the "third" brake light in the rear window. Also had the "old style" sealed headlamps.
87 saw the newer headlight design implemented.
88 just like 87 but had the active seatbelts. Also believe that ABS was introduced as an option in this year.
89-93 saw changes in manual transmissions but other than that I don't know if there are ANY differences.
So that's the extent of my knowledge. Please fill in the blanks on whatever I don't know. I'm obviously only covering models between '85 through '93. If you can tell the differences in models BEFORE that (judging by the rims, lack of the hood emblem, and the lack of a "16 valve" emblem is the only way I can judge an 8-valve Saab from an '85 16-valve...) please let me know.
I always like trying to identify the years of OG900s when I see them on the freeway, but if it's anything between an '87 and '93 or pre-'85 I just can't do it...
Thanks in advance.
