I rebuilt my trans a year ago. For the first 1000 mi I used dino 10W30 (to let the bearing surfaces become familiar with each other). I then emptied it and filled with mobil 1 10w30. To be honest, I didn't feel any difference between the two. Both worked just fine.
The reason for my rebuild was failed bearings (pinion and layshaft needles). That is why I went with mobil 1 after the rebuild -- it provides good bearing lubrication at perhaps the expense of making the synchros at alittle too slippery. There is no way I'm going to put in an oil that tries to improve the grip of the synchros (at the expense of the bearings) when the typical failure mode of the trans is through the bearings.
