Is it safe to run an Amplifier on only 1 channel?

Hello stereophiles out there... I want to run a single 12" subwoofer which is a 100w RMS, 200Max rated woofer. Problem is that the Kenwood 2 channel amp that I have here is rated to about 100w RMS per channel, 300W mono (bridged). I just want to run this one woofer. In high school I had this setup with the 2 12"s and I had each on each channel of this amp and it sounded great but was kind of overkill. I never was able to stretch the legs of the woofers because it would have been too loud for the rest of the frequency range. It also took up too much space. Yesterday, I took my huge Qlogic box and cut it in half into a single 12" box. It wasnt cost effective to sell it and buy a single speaker box. So now the other woofer is just sitting around in a box that's got no side. Luckily the box was divided in the center with a wall so the other side of the box is already made for me.
Anyhow, i'm rambling :) Can anyone answer my original question?
