Well, an '89 won't have a decel dashpot, so that won't be of any help.
Assuming that your plugs, cap & rotor, plug wires, and vacuum hoses are good, I'd think that you have worn brushes on your voltage regulator. They will give you enough current to keep a partial charge in the battery but not keep up with the electrical power demands if you have lights on or A/C running. That and your battery may now be on its way out.
(Been there, done that. It's no fun during a summer thunderstorm 200 miles from home. Over-worn brushes on voltage regulator. The only prior symptom was a very faint glow of the alternator light.)
Pull the voltage regulator and see how long the brushes are.
Ground wire from the alternator and battery clamps may be dodgy, too.
