I have recently decided to get out of Saabs, based in part on an upcoming move to Manhattan, and in part on the utter lunacy of Saab C900 ownership.
I have 2 Saabs: an 88 900t and a 92 900 base. The base has 78k on the clock and the t has about 116k. The t is a mess and the 92 900, while proving to be very reliable, is a future money pit. No one works on them, I don't have the time to work on them, the a/c sucks, there is always something wrong, even if it is minor, changing belts is a protracted and painful experience, and resale is a joke.
Watching gauges? All of the time. I won't let my wife drive one of them farther than about 10 miles. I carry a full Craftsman metric in the boot, along with spares. The cars are interfering with my life.
I'm buying a Jeep wrangler SE, you know, the base model with a four. My friend's 94 wrangler w/a four has 185k on the clock, and he NEVER WORRIES about it. Aside from oil changes, he has put in a clutch and a new cat. Thats it. He has his weekends free, and can use his car for its intended purpose: as a mode of conveyance.
That being said, I like the way they drive, sound and feel. They are safe, saved my ass once. They are quick enough, but nothing special w/o mods. Looking at it rationaly, they are not worth it.
